Assembly of European Regions - European organisation

The Assembly of European Regions (est.1985) is the largest independent network of regions in the wider Europe.

Bringing together over 260 regions from 33 countries and 13 interregional organisations, AER's mission is to:

- Promote the principle of subsidiarity and regional democracy;
- Increase the regions' political influence within the European institutions;
- Support the regions in the process of European enlargement and globalisation;
- Facilitate interregional cooperation across wider Europe and beyond.

AER's Acting President is Michèle SABBAN, Vice-President of Ile-de-France (F).

Bruxelles-Capitale (B)

Since joining AER in 1990, Bruxelles-Capitale has been especially active in Eurodyssey and Cohesion policy, and in December is set to host the European final of AER's "Do you speak European?" competition. The region is this month hosting a Breakfast Briefing on AER's "Youth in Action" programme.
