Main landscape (mountains, urban areas, etc.): Central Finland lies in the western part of the finnish lakeland area. Central Finland is a region of forests and lakes: of an area approaching 20 000 square kilometres forest accounts for over 13 000 km2 and lakes for over 3 000 km2. Lake Päijänne (120 km long) and other waterways, marked waterways tot. 500 km, including some rapids
Main climate: Central Finland has quite a continental climate: warm summer and dry but snowy winter. The highest summer temperatures in the Finnish interior are from 32°C to 35°C. Heat waves, with a maximum daily temperature exceeding 25°C, occur on an average of 10 to 15 days per summer in central Finland. Winter usually begins in November-December. The snow cover is deepest around mid-March, with an average of 60 to 90 cm. The average temperature for the coldest month, January, is - 10ºC. The skiing season in long, from December to Mid-April.

Main cultural events: The lively cultural scene is maintained by a professional theatre and symphony orchestra supported by some amateur theatre companies, orchestras and choirs. Central Finland's leading cultural events are the Jyväskylä Arts Festival - the oldest of its kind in Finland - the Viitasaari Time of Music contemporary music festival, the Jyväskylä Summer Jazz and the very individual Kihveli Soikoon skiffle festival. The largest and most international annual event is Neste Oil Rally Finland, the Finnish round of the World Rally Championship.
