Alba

Located in the middle of the country, Alba County is more than just a geographical mark on the Romanian map, it is a symbol, a land where visitors have the chance to admire beautiful landscapes. The tourist resources of Alba County are impressive; we have both natural and anthropic elements.

A large number of attractive sights are concentrated in The Apuseni Natural Park: deep caves, gorges, waterfalls, architectural monuments. The main tourist attractions within the Park are The Scarisoara Glacier - the only survivor of the last Ice Age. The Snail's Hill is a unique natural fenomenon, an accumulation of millions of snail fossils that has become a paleonthologic reservation, offering answers to specialists who are trying to find out the mistery of the Earth.

We also have The Red Cliff, a geological reservation dating from the Tertiary Era. It's amazing how after the rain it turns red because of the iron oxidizer. There is a beautiful mountain lake at Ighie; it is only here that we can see a wild sheep reservation in Romania. At the Intregalzii Gorges we are amazied by the delicacy of the edelweiss that grows here at the lowest altitude in Europe.

As far as the natural reservations and monuments are concerned Alba County is the first in Romania. There are 25 natural reservations, 28 geological reservations, 23 spel(a)eological reservations, 12 pal(a)eontological reservations, 5 paysagist reservation, 31 floral species, 89 bird species and 6 animal species protected by law.

If we are to talk about the anthropic potential of Alba County, we should mention the historical monuments, the splendid architecture and a good exemple would be Alba Iulia Fortress (1715 - 1738), which is the most representative Vauban Style Fortification in Romania, the wodden churches and manasteries, the museums and the memorial houses, All these monuments represent the proof of our art.

Maybe all that we have mentioned here sounds pretty interesting, but we are sure that the tourist who visits just a part of Alba County would want to come back here and see the rest of it.
