Iasi

Situated in the north-eastern part of Romania, at the eastern border of the European Union with the Republic of Moldova, Iasi County covers an area of 5.476 km² and occupies a special geographical position, representing one of the most important connection of commercial transit from the eastern part of Romania. The county is easily accessible due to the numerous transportation connections: there is an international airport in Iasi City, in addition to railway and road infrastructure (DN28, DN 24, E581).

The capital of the county is Iasi Municipality, also known as 'the city of the seven hills',  that was first referred to in these terms in a document from the XVth century, belonging to the king Alexandru Cel Bun (1400-1432) and offering commercial privileges to the city. As an academic city, Iasi has more than 60.000 students and hosts the first university founded in Romania (1860), namely the University 'Al.I.Cuza'.

Iasi County has an impressive cultural heritage, with historical, ethnographic and architectonic components. Therefore, we are inviting the traveller to a pilgrimage through  our county, starting from the heart of Moldavia - Iasi Metropolitan Cathedral – then admiring the stone crenellation from the Three Hierarchs Monastery or remaining for a moment of peace and relaxation at Cetatuia Monastery places of faith and Romanian spirituality.

Afterwards, the traveller may enjoy the natural landscape in the protected areas, namely David's Valley or Uricani Forest. Traditional local hospitality, cuisine, and the local products are additional reasons to visit Iasi County.

Come to get acquainted with Iasi County and its inhabitants!
