Mures

  • How would you define your region's tourism potential ?
Mures County is very well located geographically, in the centre of Romania; it can be reached on road, on railroad or by air. The five strengths enumerated above are the structure local tourism is built on. The county has a potential in developing spa and rural tourism, mountain and sports tourism, cultural and urban tourism, an business tourism, with valuable sub-categories like tourism based on wellness in general, hiking or gastronomy.
  • Does the geographical and/or historical specificities of your region offer potential for certain forms of tourism?
Yes. The geographical specificity of the county – mountains, hills and rivers and the large area covered by rural areas, offer potential for developing several forms of mountain and sports tourism like hiking, mountain climbing, skiing, walking, cycling, rafting, fishing and hunting or agro and eco-tourism; the many salt water springs offer an excellent possibility for spa tourism. The historical specificities - the multiculturalism of the county, four great ethnic groups: Romanians, Hungarians, Germans and Roma, living together for centuries, through the diversity of their traditions, architecture and gastronomy, formed a strong base for cultural and urban tourism.
  • What does your region do about that?
In order to bring information closer to the tourist, on June the 1st, 2005 the Mure_ County and the Tîrgu Mure_ City Hall opened a Tourist Information Centre in Tîrgu Mure_ and we intend to expand in the coming years, creating a countywide network of information points, establishing more information points in Tîrgu Mure_ and in every major town. The Information Centre also has its own website, where tourists can always find information about accommodation and attractions in the county.
To ensure the safety of those practicing mountain tourism, the County Council established a Mountain Rescue Service that has several teams throughout the county.
Also, to increase the quality of services offered and to boost rural tourism, we organize training in agro tourism, gastronomy, languages and informatics – even university level education, for those who work or intend to work in tourism.
