Mures

  • What will change in the near future?
Better and more transport facilities, more investments in tourism, measures for overcoming seasonality, more education and training for those involved in tourism, measures for structuring cultural events.
  • For the future development of the European internal market, the EU wants further liberalisation. Is tourism in your region largely privatized?
    Yes
  • Do you have remarks regarding this liberalisation process?
    We expect and welcome investors.
  • Is this, from your point of view, an opportunity or a threat for the development of sustainable tourism?
Yes, this is an opportunity for the development of sustainable tourism. Privatisation creates diversity and a healthy competition, which increases the quality of services in tourism.
  • Is it necessary to limit privatisation?
    No
  • How does your region try to overcome these difficulties/ challenges?
In order to overcome these difficulties, the County Council, the local councils and several county institutions invest more and more in modernising the existing infrastructure and creating new infrastructure, their representatives participate at and organise business missions, meetings and conferences to attract foreign investors and stimulate local investors, try to overcome seasonality by building facilities for winter sports – ski tracks and skating rinks (the skating rink in Tîrgu Mure_ was modernised and re-opened in 2004). In the next 4-5 years the County Council intends to build a European level sports facility, corresponding to Olympic standards and the project was already begun. We also promote and provide education and training for those involved in tourism and have begun to structure the cultural activity by covering the calendar year with cultural events and offering them as a package.
