Banska Bystrica

  • What will change in the near future?
Our region is actually trying to phase-out PHARE and start using EU Structural funds in order to:

    - build a complex tourism infrastructure and tourism centers with the aim of ensuring the standard of providing services on the European and supra regional level by use of the existing material-technical basis
    - increase attractiveness of the land through rural tourism and agro tourism
    - develop rural tourism by utilizing our existing capacity and increasing private accommodation capacity.
    - develop farming areas, where the preservation of this type of settlement is possible.
    - create a varied supply of particular products in existing area for marketing and quality presentation. Supplied tourist programmes should, besides relaxation, include specialized possibilities – nature discovery, hunting, fishing, folklore, culture, monuments etc.
    - build a network of marked cycling tracks integrated to the European cycling roads network.
    - build local information system and functional network of tourist information centers connected to a single database program.
  • For the future development of the European internal market, the EU wants further liberalisation. Is tourism in your region largely privatized?
    Yes
  • Do you have remarks regarding this liberalisation process?
Privatisation might solve unsettled possessive and legal relations, which are considered to be an obstruction for further improvement of tourism services.
  • Is this, from your point of view, an opportunity or a threat for the development of sustainable tourism?
    Opportunity
In the implementation of EU Structural funds, the settling of possessive and legal relations is one of the main conditions that needs to be fulfilled to obtain the grant.
  • Is it necessary to limit privatisation?
    No
  • How does your region try to overcome these difficulties/ challenges?
Through appropriate tools and measures of regional policy.
