Västerbotten

  • What will change in the near future?
The commercial level is increasing, we see more and more cooperation with tour operators etc and the level of know-how is increasing.
  • For the future development of the European internal market, the EU wants further liberalisation. Is tourism in your region largely privatized?
    No
  • Do you have remarks regarding this liberalisation process?
We have no clear picture of the result of the liberalisation process. What we know is that competition with areas that are targets for low-cost carriers will be very tough.
  • Is this, from your point of view, an opportunity or a threat for the development of sustainable tourism?
    Both!
It’s a threat for the environment and an opportunity for economic development, i.e. a way to raise financing for investments.
  • Is it necessary to limit privatisation?
Yes, if it negatively affects the third part of sustainability: the social aspect, i.e. the inhabitants’ possibilities for a good life.
  • How does your region try to overcome these difficulties/ challenges?
Not a problem for us today!
