Odessa

  • What will change in the near future?
A strategy for the development of tourism in the region is aimed towards the creation of a profitable industry, which should provide domestic and foreign tourists with services and strengthen the interconnectedness of tourism with other spheres of the Ukrainian economy.
A simplified procedure for entrance into the territory of Ukraine through Odessa will bring both an increased number of cruise ships and a greater tourist flow. A new visa regime is aimed first of all at developing 3-to-5 day weekend programs as the most popular type of active leisure among Western tourists.
It is planned to construct new, and reconstruct and modernize existing, tourism and recreational facilities through funds obtained via domestic enterprises and the attraction of domestic and foreign investments. Attention will be paid to the creation of a modern informational and marketing service in tourism and the running of international tourism trade fairs.
  • For the future development of the European internal market, the EU wants further liberalisation. Is tourism in your region largely privatized?
    Yes
  • Do you have remarks regarding this liberalisation process?
One of the main tasks for the development of a tourism branch in Odesa Region is to speed up the creation of a free market in the recreational sphere, including furthering an infrastructure for leisure, resort services, etc.
  • Is this, from your point of view, an opportunity or a threat for the development of sustainable tourism?
    Both
  • Is it necessary to limit privatisation?
    Yes
  • How does your region try to overcome these difficulties/ challenges?
In our region this policy is undeveloped as of now.
